The results of the House of Representatives election were announced in Japan. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (自由民主党)lost more seats than expected, while the main opposition, the Constitutional Democratic Party(立憲民主党), significantly increased its number of seats. Personally, I was relieved that Representative Matsuno, whom I served for 5 years, was elected. However, I don't agree with the opposition party's strategy of targeting ruling party members who have not been formally charged by prosecutors. With Japan focused on overcoming deflation and growing its economy, and given the increasing possibility of a Taiwan-related security emergency, it seems unlikely that the Constitutional Democratic Party would be able to respond with a strong security stance.
